Interest is nutraceuticals has grown over the years. Simply put, nutraceuticals are compounds, usually in bottled, gel cap, or tablet form, which are sold for their beneficial or medicinal values. To purchase them, no prescription is required, as opposed to pharmaceuticals. Frequently their value is not proven as are pharmaceuticals.

Vitamin pills and non-prescription medicines do not fall in the nutraceutical category. However, usually they are all manufactured to the same quality standards.

Similarly, we exclude the wide range of new offerings with CBD extracted from hemp.

Standard Process of Palmyra, Wisconsin is probably the largest (and least known) of the nutraceutical producers. They sell both plant based compounds from their organic farm, and a large range of products extracted from animal organs. They sell their products exclusively to chiropractors.

Most nutraceuticals are produced by small firms specializing in herbal extracts. Typical products include a range of echinacea, grasses like alfalfa and wheat grass, botanicals, aloe vera, turmeric, and cactus. They come mostly from plant material: roots, leaves, seeds, and berries. On the animal side we have lungs, heart, and bone, from sheep, cattle, veal, and horses.
